Niche Marketing - Why It’s So Important

August 30, 2008 - 8:46 pm

“Say your target customers are everyone, and you will sell to no one.”

If your website is not producing as much revenue as you’d like, chances are you’re guilty of not targeting your audience sufficiently.

Today’s business environment is so competitive that a small business’s best bet is to focus on developing niche products where there is less competition from large firms.

Take the online book market. Amazon.com dominates the field, so smaller start-ups are wise to focus on books in specific niches. There are sites for best sellers, out of print books, used books, Oprah’s Books, teen books, 3-D popup books, e-books, Christian books, and so on and on. Imagine a small company trying to compete with Amazon’s huge inventory and variety. Then imagine that same company aiming for more depth in a much smaller field.

Another reason for niche websites is because you want to get listed in the top 100 sites on any particular search engine. By making a website based around a highly focused niche you reduce considerably the number of competitors that you have. This makes it easier to rank well in the search engines (first 3 pages, or top 100 sites). Without a high Website ranking it is not possible to attract free search engine traffic and hence free visitors.

If you’re an affiliate that thinks big and joins dozens of programs, you’re in for a bit of a shock. Your site is indistinguishable from a myriad others, no one knows it exists, and you’re very lonely. Am I right?

You need to promote what you join, and it’s impossible to promote that many programs effectively. You won’t succeed at any of them, you’ll lose interest, and your business will disappear.

Instead, you need to focus on one thing that you love and create a lot of good content.

Everyone who has a website is constantly trying to improve their search engine rankings by carrying out optimization and getting inbound links etc. However one of the easiest ways is to create content that no one else has- unique content. Unique content written for an extremely focused niche market is a sure ticket to promotional success.

If your website contains your main keywords as well as a variety of related ones, used in a natural way throughout your pages, you will outperform your competition with fewer, less targeted pages. Using all these keywords throughout your pages also makes your content more interesting, rational, and satisfying. Imagine that…the question isn’t whether you simply occupy a niche, but how much obscure secret stuff you know about it, how much of an expert you are about it, how passionate you are about it, and if your site is interactive and fresh.

Yet another example of “build it and they will come.”

Niche Market Discovery

August 30, 2008 - 8:18 pm

What is a niche Market? It is simply a group of people with a common interest. Some examples are hobbies, problems, desires, needs and hundreds of others. People are interested in information to help solve their problems. First you will need to find large groups of people interested in the same thing. Think of ideas you want to research. Don’t waste time and money marketing to people who have no interest in products or services. Only focus on groups of people already interested in your product or service.

Several things are very important in selecting a niche. First, find a group of people with a common interest, then decide what they want or need. Put together a product or service to satisfy that need. Finally, ask if they are willing to pay for this information.

Seek out popular markets and make sure there is a large interest in that market. Some types of markets people have interest are money making ideas, self help, health and fitness, hobbies, religious & spiritual just to name a few.

Places to find ideas for a hot niche include Clickbank, magazines, Amazon.com, discussion groups, infomercials, direct mail, forums and blogs.

Once you have found a nich then it’s time to research your competitors and do all the research you can on that particular product. Make a decision if you are excited enough about developing around the product or service.

Once you have decided it’s time to move forward, you will need to develop a web site to promote your product or service.

All ideas will not work out. The main thing is to not get discouraged. If it does not work, find a different nich and try again. Just keep promoting your product or service and the rewards will come. There is only one thing left to do and that is TAKE ACTION!

News and the Internet

August 29, 2008 - 10:02 pm

The use of online news sites have been extremely popular in the way the average internet user is able to keep up with the news on the internet, without the hassle of having to buy a newspaper, turn on the television, or the radio.

It is perhaps the most convenient way an Internet user can get his/her news on the Internet. Most of the major news organizations have online versions of their news on the Internet.

The Washington Post and the New York Times has articles from their newspaper online. The ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) radio has transcripts of their radio bulletins online and Channel Nine of Australia has collaborated with MSN to jointly put up articles on the web.

Internet users have become net savvy enough to scour the web for alternative news sources. The Arab media company, Al Jezeera, has plenty of hits on its English news site, even though; it was lauded as anti-American by the Bush administration.

These are just some examples on how the news which internet users read online, are mostly from media companies which have already had their hand in the production of other forms of more traditional media before venturing onto the Internet.

Yet, with this in mind, it is not surprising that much of the information that an internet user reads from online news sites is mainly recycled information from these media organizations.

Those with the resources to produce their news segments in other forms of media, would also have the resources to run an online news site. The Washington Post has started charging for their articles to be read online, so that they can garner some revenue from their Internet media business, whilst the New York Times require their readers to register before they are permitted to read their articles.

Hence with the way internet news sites are evolving, there is really becoming only one way where the consumer can get hold of news from these organizations and that is to pay.

Newbies Guide To Online Marketing Jargon

August 27, 2008 - 8:44 pm

In all forms of business, and even hobbies, the people who have been involved in a particular activity will start to use jargon. When someone new comes along this jargon can be very offputting, making them feel like an outsider, and may result in somebody being put off completely. When your business depends on people as customers, then you need to be careful you don’t leave them outside with jargon.

It recently came to my attention that online marketing has more than its share of jargon for the newbie to learn. As marketing is all about getting and keeping new customers, I could see we online marketers have an image problem. The online marketing jargon was pointed out to me vividly by a colleague who was interested in working online, and asked for an explanation. He stopped me mid sentence with the words “speak English geek boy” that was my wake up call.

Now the light is on, I decided to write this short guide to online marketing jargon, to help anyone on the outside of the internet marketing circle get on the inside much quicker.

1) Online Marketing, is selling any product or service on the internet or world wide web. Marketing is just the act of selling something, selling on the web costs less than having a real world, bricks and mortar business. It’s this low cost of entry which is attractive in starting your own online business.

2) Joint Ventures, a joint venture is a partnership. Simply put 2 or more people work together to increase their sales, or to complete a product or service. Sometimes shortened to JV, joint ventures are often very profitable.

3) Subscriber List, this is sometimes known as an email list, or an ezine list (ezine is short for electronic magazine), and is a list of people who have given permission for the marketer to send them emails which may contain adverts. This is also known as an opt-in list, because subscribers opt in to receive the emails. This prevents people complaining that an email is spam because there will be a record of them signing up and agreeing to receive the emails, another snippet of jargon is double opt-in, which just means after filling in a form, the potential subscriber will receive an email asking them to verify that they agree to accept future emails before they are actually added to the email list to receive them.

4) Viral Marketing, this little phrase is used to describe a way of increasing your business, or websites reach, by using a “viral technique”. In real life a virus spreads out by people contacting one another, and computer viruses are spread by contacting other computers. Some clever people realised they could use the power of people sending each other information, and watch information about their own business being spread in the same way as a virus. Giving away a free gift, which contains a link to your business, and allowing others to give it away too will work like a virus spreading the word to others as people send it on to their friends, as long as your freebie was something people would give away in the first place.

5) Niche Marketing, this is the act of selling to a particular group of people. There are lots of untapped niches (small groups interested in a specific subject) who are willing to pay for information. Online it’s eay to target these small markets by monitoring search engine results, and finding a specific word or phrase which is being searched for but not near the top of the list of popular searches. An example of a niche market is poodle owners, they are dog owners, but will specifically search for information about poodles. These markets can be profitable because they are not targeted directly by many people so if you have a product tailored to a niche market you have little or no competition.

6) EBook, although getting more popular this still causes some confusion, an ebook is an electronic book, it can be a .pdf file, plain text file or an executable file (one which is actually a self contained program to run on your computer). Ebooks sell well online, as there is no shipping, and delivery is instant.

7) MLM, is the initials of one of the least understood, and most maligned of business models, Multi Level Marketing. Sometimes known as network marketing or referral marketing, mlm is an ideal business model for online marketers, because of the ease of getting out the message about a new business, and the low cost of advertising online. The problem with mlm is that it is also easy to mistake a pyramid scheme (also called a ponzi) for an mlm opportunity, and many unscrupulous people will sell pyramid schemes as an mlm opportunity. The difference is that a genuine Mutli Level Marketing scheme has a worthwhile product which you are selling, and money is made by referring other sellers of the product whose sales generate you a commission. Pyramid schemes will usually have a worthless product or no product at all, and pays people from new members joining.

I hope that, if you are a newbie to online marketing, these short explanations will help you understand some of the things the seasoned online marketer says and writes, and if you’re a seasoned marketer you will try to introduce your newbie friends with less of the jargon we take for granted.

New to Internet Marketing? Decide and Focus, or Quit!

August 27, 2008 - 12:27 pm

When you first get involved with Internet Marketing you’ll discover there are unlimited opportunities for income. For example, there is the GoogleCash opportunity where you simply direct the traffic clicking on your ads to a merchant’s website and collect an affiliate commission. Or, you might choose to build a content-rich theme site over a period of many weeks and use it to earn Adsense income and to earn affiliate income. Or build dozens of “quick and dirty” Adsense sites in hours. Or you can build mini-sites for affiliate marketing. Or you can blog for money. You could profit from ebay in a variety of ways. You could write an information product, or choose to sell physical products. And this is only a partial list! Internet Marketing has something to suit (almost) everyone.

But the reality is that each opportunity probably calls for you to learn more than just one skill, and buy and learn more than just one software tool. For example if you choose to get involved with the Adsense opportunity you can end up using a keyword research tool to identify keywords to focus on, an HTML editing tool to build your site, graphics software to build the graphic header, the blog and ping technique with a junk blog to get indexed in a hurry, RSS to build-up the content on your site, perhaps a separate good quality blog to improve your rankings in the search engines, perhaps another software tool to build a site map, and so on. The different Internet Marketing opportunities have their own Tools of the Trade!

For each of these tools you need to research which one to use; buy it; learn how to use it; then to put into practice. Some individual tools, for example some of the sophisticated software to make automatic post to blocks have quite a steep learning curve, and it can genuinely take many hours simply to become familiar with the software, and many more to understand how to apply it correctly.

But if you’re human, and interested in making money (and why else would you be here?) it is all too easy to be tempted to explore other opportunities while you are still in the middle of making a previous opportunity work. In fact, you probably asked for it! Your research probably put you on the mailing lists of many Internet Marketing experts who send you news of the latest and greatest every day … and these folk are masters at turning-on your greed glands. From personal experience (me, my friends and my family) I suspect the majority of people who decide to dive into Internet Marketing but never succeed in making a serious penny simply get bogged down with partially implemented opportunities.

The solution is simple but unfortunately contrary to human nature (at least for many of us). It requires four steps:

Give yourself the luxury of exploring the opportunities … but with a specific time limit, during which you commit up-front to starting nothing and to buying nothing until that time limit is up. This research is NOT trivial. You are not just looking at the income potential of the different Internet Marketing opportunities … you need to look at the commitments in terms of initial time and ongoing time; whether income is fast or slowly builds up; whether there is out-of-pocket risk or just time-wasted risk; are you prepared to wander to the “dark side” a little (black hat SEO) or is your nature to stick to the straight and narrow; do you want to be dealing with individuals, or just nameless, faceless masses? Do you have a technical nature? Do you have access to someone who does if you need help?

Make the decision. Make it logically …. then test to see how your gut feels about it. When it feels right, commit. I mean, FULLY commit.

Pursue the chosen opportunity to completion, where “completion” means you fail beyond recovery, or you succeed in making a level of income that you considered to be a success for the technique. Learn what you need to; buy what you need to; then DO IT. And be prepared - this often means facing fears; fear of minor failure (starting a technical area where you are a novice), fear of rejection (asking others for links, knowing 90% will tell you “no” in the early days), and the big one … fear of project failure. Your mind can play odd games with you … if you move to another opportunity before you give this one your all, you’ve not really failed, have you? Whereas if you DO give it your all and it doesn’t work out … then you’d have to face your failure.

And while you are pursuing the opportunity discipline yourself not to pursue or even explore different Internet marketing opportunities. Unless you know you have superb discipline this means you do not read e-mail’s, newsletters, or sales pages from gurus promoting products that do not relate directly to your opportunity; and do not even read e-mail’s, newsletters, or sales pages promoting improved versions of products that are supposed to be improvements on those products you are already using in pursuit of your opportunity. Make what you have, work.

Even if, on completing one opportunity, you choose to go onto a second or even a third entirely different one, doing so in this focused manner means you will probably complete three entire opportunities to a satisfying level of success before you would have achieved even one to a partial level of success if you’d been attempting all three simultaneously. I’m serious; multi-tasking often means a factor of three or four times the elapsed duration to completion of any project. Internet Marketing is no exception.

Just as important, you will actually have mastered the individual skills involved in the opportunities you pursued to completion; this contrasts nicely to having only a fingertips grasp of a variety of different tools and techniques, as is the inevitable outcome if you fail to focus.

In Internet Marketing, this mastery has rewards; you can repeat your success more quickly. You can outsource tasks, from a position of complete proficiency (always a good position from which to outsource). And you can usually transfer some or all of the skills to another Internet Marketing opportunity in such a way as to make success in the new arena more certain, and more speedy. Not a bad combination!

August 27, 2008 - 7:49 am

In recent years, Asia has developed to become one of the foremost internet marketing

boom areas, particularly in Singapore and Malaysia. As more and more events take off

in this part of the world, outstanding internet marketers are starting to blaze the

trail and offer marketers in the USA, UK and Europe opportunities for joint ventures

and other work.

For instance, Vince Tan, a Malaysian, was previously unknown until the launch of

"Keyword Anywhere" tool that has caught the imagination of the internet

marketing community through its killer application. Vince works with a more

prominent internet strategist, Kelvin Hui.

Gobala Krishnan, another Malaysian, who was also formerly unknown until the

development of the Easy Wordpress System that also proliferated the internet with

its step-by-step approach to blogging.

Joesph Then, a fairly experienced internet marketer, who has not yet been known in

Singapore but has a thriving business there, also runs several online businesses and

is armed with over 6 years of actual experience.

Jaz Lai is a new addition to the Singapore team of internet marketers. His claim to

fame is in network marketing online, and has fascinating ways to build a list

online.

These are five figure a month internet marketers, and it is likely that before the

end of this year, six-figure income marketers will be created in the heartlands of

Asia.

The community effort is now being forged at .IMAsiaHub.com and all

marketers are invited to beta test the platform. With more opportunities to network,

there will most definitely be a greater number of join ventures and more money to be

Neuro Linguistic Programming Patterns

August 26, 2008 - 4:50 pm

In many cases of where neuro linguistic programming is taught, most focus on teaching the

techniques. For instance, you might learn the technique of curing phobias, building confidence and

enhancing good feelings.

I’d like you to consider that NLP is not just about those techniques. Patterns and formats (the

step-by-step process of using a technique) do not necessarily add value to you. You might learn a

technique only to realize that it falls flat on its face when you can’t apply it to certain people.

It happened when I was testing this out while I was still in the university. someone asked me about

“submodalities” and I thought it would be a good way to test submodalities out on this person. It so

happened that the way I used it was a technique I had picked up in NLP 101, and it had no effect on

that person whatsoever. I had attempted to use a technique called the “Swish Pattern”, which was

devised by Richard Bandler several years ago, but it didn’t ‘work’. Or shall I say “I” didn’t work.

You see, I had the mindset that I could treat anything using submodality patterns. However, I

realized later that these are not tailored to suit the client. I did not explore what was going on inside

the mind of the client first, and jumped to the conclusion that the swish technique could work on

him.

This is a common problem with beginners in NLP. The techniques taught are taken to be the gospel

truth, but they are not used properly with effective meta modeling and exploration.

If you want to develop mastery in NLP, you must learn how to apply the principles of NLP at the

foundation level, and develop this foundation well. Once you have this, you can proceed to devise

ANY technique you want, and it will work.

You can visit my NLP information website to learn more about NLP techniques and related ideas in

neuro linguistic programming.

Necessary Tools for the High Rolling Affiliate Marketer

August 25, 2008 - 4:38 pm

What does it take to become a successful Affiliate Marketer? What are the ingredients of an affiliate marketing success story? Is there a shortcut to Affiliate Marketing glory? All these questions play around in the minds of affiliate marketers who want to make it big in this business.

Although affiliate marketing is touted as one of the easiest and most effective ways to earn money online, it is not as easy as it sounds. The wise affiliate marketer plans every action and executes it the best way he can. He should also maximize the potential to earn by utilizing the right tools necessary for a successful Affiliate Marketing business. We have consulted some of the most successful affiliate marketers in the business and below are the top three necessary tools for a successful affiliate marketing business.

Important Tool #1: Your Own Website

The most important and indispensable tool in Affiliate Marketing is your own website. The first step in any successful affiliate marketing business is building a good, credible and professional looking website. Your website is the jump off point of all your marketing efforts. Thus, you must first build a user-friendly website, which will appeal to your prospects and encourage them to click on the links to the products and service you are promoting and make a purchase. Therefore, you must first concentrate your efforts in building a website that will cater to what your prospects need.

The most important thing you should consider is that almost all web users go online to look for information, not necessarily to go and buy something. Above all else, make your website full of original, relevant and useful content. People will love articles that are appealing and helpful. Keep in mind that, in the internet, content is still king and good quality content will not only build your credibility, it can also help you achieve a higher search engine ranking. By posting relevant and useful articles, you establish yourself as a credible expert in the field, making you a more trustworthy endorser of the product or service you promote. Establishing a good reputation is a good step in building up a loyal consumer base.

Important Tool #2: Incentives

Competition is extremely tight in the internet world. You must always be one-step ahead of your rivals to ensure that you capture a significant share of your target market. Therefore, you must use every possible means to encourage people not only to visit your site but also to click and proceed to the websites of the products and services you are promoting. Building an opt-in email list is one of the best ways to gather prospects. Offer a newsletter or an e-zine. Better yet, offer incentives to your prospects to encourage them to subscribe to your newsletters. You can present free softwares, access to exclusive services and other freebies that will be helpful to your prospects.

Important Tool #3: Link Popularity

The importance of driving highly targeted traffic to your website cannot be emphasized enough. The all-important web traffic is at the top of the list of the most important entities in the internet world. Attracting people to your site should be the first step you should carry out. Do everything to achieve a high search engine ranking. Link Popularity is one of the factors that search engines use to determine search engine rankings. Therefore, to enhance your link popularity, you must launch an aggressive reciprocal link campaign.

One of the best ways to do this &ndash at no cost at all &ndash is by submitting articles, with your website’s link at the resource box, to e-zines and free article sites. You will not only gain exposure, you will also have the opportunity to advertise for free, just include a link back to your site. The more sites you submit your articles to, the better your link popularity is. Make your articles original, relevant and useful so that more websites will pick it up and post it.

These are but three of the many tools that an affiliate marketer can use to maximize earning potential. The possibilities are endless and are limited only by your imagination, creativity, resourcefulness and determination. You can always explore other ideas and adapt other strategies, which you think might help you become a high rolling affiliate marketer.
